Littlewoods Edge Lane

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO PUT A PAIR OF SCHOOLS INSIDE THIS BUILDING, ON THE EDGE OF THE NEW ROAD WIDENING SCHEME OF ONE OF THE BUSIEST ROADS IN THE CITY.

When we got wind that this building was to be demolished we organised a successful campaign to save it from demolition. Urban Splash took it over. They have been credit crunched and now.....I think Mike Storey is pulling strings here. It was he who declared that he would help us save it. Even though its my opinion, that I think he has behaved at times like a Spiv he did see the publicity would have been too great against the council if it had been demolished as originally intended. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/06/littlewoods-edge-lane-still-in-peril.html
The Council planning poodles have passed the plans now.........The Council did not write to us to advise us of the planning application.....we just saved it from demolition.

Planners back plans to build schools in Littlewoods building despite business fears
CONTROVERSIAL plans to build two highs schools within Liverpool’s iconic Littlewoods building have been backed despite a scathing attack from a city business.
The iconic art deco building, within Edge Lane’s new Innovation Park, was built by the Pools firm’s founders in 1938, but has sat empty for years.

All this despite one of the schools not wanting to move.

  1. The use will save the building, so unless the schools are moving from buildings of comparable architectural or historic importance, why are you opposed to this?
Typical Liverpool Preservation Trust, good intentions clouded by lack of rational thought and a need to play to the gallery by opposing everything willy-nilly.

  2. Conservation Officer is getting a little bit wound up they may not have read the complete story. No-where does it say that we are aposing anything connected with this building. We saved the building from demolition. What is says quite clearly, if it had been read, within the press articles is that one of the schools is aposing a move there and in the other press article, if it had of been read it will have noted there was an objector at the meeting.
We never once agreed that apartments was a good idea. At the time of the planning application I stated Liverpool was turning into a giant empty flat.At the 2005 planning meeting for the new museum despoiling the Pier Head and at other times I suggested that this building should be the new museum. Especially with its vicinity to Edge Lane Station the first purpose built train station...in the world.

  3. "We" saved the building from demolition? Perhaps you'd like to post some evidence that Liverpool Preservation Trust in itself actually had any effect at all.
And it's "opposing", "aposing" isn't a word. But regardless of the spelling, it's clear from your original post that LPT IS opposing the move, otherwise you wouldn't link to the stories without contradictory comment.
But given that you don't want flats or schools to use it, now you've "saved" it, perhaps you could be constructive and suggest a use?

  4. We are now aposed to do-gooders who dont even live in Liverpool who wish to make some ridiculous point that is a complete and utter waste of time. If you spent more time doing something instead of you and your mate Evelyn Cook from Nemisis blogspot trying to be a smart-arse it would help alround.
